Landform
The landform of the prefecture presents a wide range of features. The eastern, western and southern parts are relatively higher than the central part which is an extensive plain. The average altitude is about 32 meters (105 feet) above sea level. Jiuling Mountain with an altitude of about 1,794 meters (5,886 feet) is the highest point. The Yangtze River passes though its northern border over a distance of 143 kilometers (469 feet).
