The Yuanmou Man was found earlier than the Wushan Man in the year 1965. Tooth fossils that were found testified that the Yuanmou Man was living in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River about 1,700,000 years ago. The Yuanmou Man was once considered the earliest ancestor of Chinese nation before the appearance of Wushan Man.
