Sanxia National Geopark to Open to the Public Soon
China's biggest geopark-Sanxia National Geopark in Yichang is to open to the public soon. It has been under construction for two years and this opening is to exhibit the park of the Ordovician period and the Cambrian period dating back to around 470 million years ago.

Sanxia National Geopark covers an area of about 25,000 square kilometers (about6177,635 acres), extending from the Baidi City in the west to the Nanjin Pass in the east in both banks of Yangtze River. According to the administrative division and the forming time of the geological characteristics, the geopark includes nine sub-parks. It is said, a Sanxia Geological Museum is under construction and the tourist reception and service facility in the geopark is to be consummated.

Closed Fishing Season Starts in Downstream Reach of Gezhouba Project
The closed fishing season in the downstream reach of Gezhouba Water Control Project (Yangtze River) starts from April 1st and ends in the end of June, 2007.

It is said that more than 280 involved fishers signed the responsibility statements with the fishery administration to obey the regulations of safe fishery. During the closed fishing season, fishermen receive subsidies CNY270, 000 per year from the government.

Two Recovered Sturgeons Back to Yangtze on April 22nd
A grand activity to free the rare Yangtze aquatic animals will be held in Jingzhou City,Hubei Province on April 22nd. Two recovered sturgeons in the Beijing Aquarium are among other species back to the Yangtze River.

In 2005, a shoal of sturgeons got hurt on their migration way to the East China Sea in lower part of the Gezhouba Water Control Project. It is said, five sturgeons are recovered but only two of them reach the body quality to endure the long way transferring from Beijing to Jingzhou. It is the first case to free sturgeon back to Yangtze River.

Yichang Sanxia Airport to Add Round-trip Flight Beijing from April 10, 2007
Yichang Sanxia Airport is to add a round-trip air service connecting Beijing and Yichang from April 10, 2007 Including the current one flight to Bejing Capital Airport, there will be two round-trip flights per day taking off from Yichang Sanxia Airports by then.

The flight number is CA1823/1824 with the aircraft type of Boeing 737. It has a capacity of 140 passengers. The flight is to take off from Beijing at 10: 55 and arrive in Beijing at 13:00; then to return form Yichang at 14:00 and arrive in Beijing at 15:55 every day.

The Third Global Botanic Garden Congress to Held in Wuhan This April
According to the Wuhan Botanical Garden Chinese Academy of Science, the 3rd Global Botanic Gardens Congress (GBGC) is to be held in Wuhan on 16-20 April, 2007. It is said, 1,000 delegates from about 100 countries worldwide will attend the meeting.

'Building a sustainable future: the role of botanic gardens' is the theme of the congress this year. The meeting is to discuss and share information and news about the activities, programs and advances in plant conservation, environmental education, and sustainable development they achieved in the past years. To better perform the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, the meeting is to make plans and guidelines for the next three years (2007-2010) in the fields of the botanic gardens worldwide.

Global Botanic Garden Congress (GBGC), recognized as the primary international event for botanic gardens worldwide, is held every three years. The 3rd GBGC is organized by Chinese Academy of Science, Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), Hubei Provincial Government, and Wuhan Municipal Government.

Yichang Sanxia Airport Operates Summer-Autumn Flight Timetable
According to the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, Yichang Sanxia Airport starts to operate the summer-autumn flight timetable from Mar. 25th to Oct.27th . It is said that the takeoff and landing times is to reach 180 per week, 15% up than last year.

It is reported that scheduled fights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming, Chongqing, Xian and Chengdu resumed. Especially the flights to tourist cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming and Guangzhou are increased. Sanxia Airport will add more flights to Hangzhou, Jinan and Wenzhou this April and two more charter flights to Hong Kong for the coming May Day Holiday.
